Pix4D Crane Camera solution

A fully autonomous alternative to drones in construction

What is the Crane
Camera solution?

Pix4D Crane Camera, developed as a drone mapping alternative in construction, combines both hardware and software to provide a unique solution for monitoring, management and documentation of construction projects.

The system automatically collects jobsite data every day. Unlike a drone, the Crane Camera does not need flying permissions, pilots to fly and it is fully independent of weather conditions.

What can you do with the Crane Camera?

Integrate the 2D and 3D deliverables into your BIM workflows

Visualize project progress
Display your project in 2D and 3D view and quickly verify construction progress without leaving your office.
operational planning
Facilitate operational planning
React immediately to changes or delays and adapt site planning operations accordingly.
document the project
Fully document the project
Keep a permanent daily record of the build and access it at any time from any device or location.
Identify errors
Identify build errors
Overlay your design drawings onto the automatically created 2D rendering, compare the as-built vs as design and avoid costly rework.
resolve disputes
Resolve disputes
Go back in time and check what happened. Resolve disputes faster, and easier so you finish your project on time.
Improve collaboration
Improve collaboration
Instantly access the project data, communicate and share the site progress seamlessly with both teams in the field and subcontractors.

How does it work?

crane camera installed

The Crane Camera system is mounted on the jib of a tower crane, powered by the crane and wirelessly connected to the Pix4Dcloud Advanced software.

crane camera capturing data

The system is equipped with movement sensors and firmware, and takes images automatically when the crane begins to operate.

processing data

When enough data has been collected, it is automatically and wirelessly transferred to the Pix4Dcloud Advanced software where it is processed, and the results are securely displayed online.

Who can use Crane Camera data?

project manager

Project manager

  • To monitor the overall project progress and plan accordingly

  • To communicate progress to non-project stakeholders (public, project owner, finance, authorities, etc.)

bim manager

BIM manager

  • To remotely check the project status in detail, update BIM, and alert the project manager when required

  • To use the data as a project progress overview for project meetings

site manager

Site manager

  • To compare the as-built vs as-designed to spot errors and make sure the schedule is on track

  • To rapidly check as-built status of hidden elements before rework or major activity

Grant Hagen

“Pix4D Crane Camera is the safest solution we found so far for capturing aerial imagery to be turned into 2D and 3D. It’s definitely a great alternative to drones for construction projects.”

Grant Hagen
VDC Manager - The Beck Group
Stijn Van Schaijk

“During our project, we found a misplaced scaffolding that could cause a lot of problems. I cannot imagine how we would discover this error so early without the Crane Camera.”

Stijn Van Schaijk BIM Manager - VolkerWessels
Kevin Grover

“Monitoring the change over time, day-to-day on the construction site, is very valuable and this alone justifies why we use this technology.”

Kevin Grover UAS Operations Manager - Stantec
